“I’m So Much Better:” Boynton Beach Patient Thankful For Getting Her Diabetes and Hypertension Under Control

Marie Petro didn’t have medical insurance or a lot of money to take care of her health.

The Boynton Beach mother of three suffered from diabetes, hypertension, and breathing problems, including asthma, when she learned about Community Health Center in West Palm Beach.

She showed up at the clinic and started getting treatment.

That was three years ago.

“Today I am doing so much better,” Maria said. “Everyone has been so good and nice to me.”

Born in Guadeloupe, West Indies, and spending much of her life living outside of Paris, France, Marie moved permanently to the United States in 2008.

She already had health issues when she came to Palm Beach County and couldn’t seriously address them because she had trouble finding work and earning money due to her immigration status.

That changed when she came to the Community Health Center in 2019.

Since then, Marie has been seen regularly by our medical staff and has gotten her diabetes and hypertension under control.

She now keeps track of her sugar and blood levels and reports them online and to our staff.

“If I didn’t come here, I don’t know if I would still be alive,” Marie said.

“I feel so much better thanks to the staff,” she said. “I’m so thankful and grateful to everyone.”
